Gail Martin President, DreamSpinner CommunicationsAt the Young Entrepreneurs Seminar leading businesswomen LuAn Mitchell-Halter who has been featured in many magazines was the only woman speaker. She talked about succeeding in business. Her main point was that change happens and you have to learn to adapt to succeed. The other main topic she addressed was not to judge a book by its cover, never pre-judge people because no one these days is predictable by appearances alone. I felt her best quote of the night was Shift Happens, when she was talking about change and how you have to go with the flow and learn from the past.
Jolene Engaging the audience with her usual energetic style, LuAn Mitchell-Halter spoke at a Women of Influence luncheon in Calgary on the topic of overcoming adversity. Named Canada's top woman entrepreneur for three successive years and winner of the Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World award, LuAn offered anecdotes on setting goals, overcoming obstacles, and living a rewarding life.
Deloitte "I had the opportunity to hear you speak on leadership. I thought that you and all of the lessons you shared were fantastic. Your courage and strength was very inspiring to me. You probably hear this all of the time. I'm 33 now, and have big goals for the future both personally and professionally. Your story is an inspiration and for that, I say thank you!"
Lisa "So often speakers at large groups like ours "humor" folks afterward and I end up feeling like they really wouldn't take the time to bother under other circumstances. You made me feel like we're all just one-of-the-girls. Thank you for that. What a blessing to be aware enough to cherish such spiritual moments as experienced during weekends like the one where we met, and also being able to take that out with us to the poor souls who missed the conference. Thanks again."
Lisa, Chicago "On behalf of the CNIB, I would once again like to thank you for your presentation at the CNIB President's Meetings in Edmonton on April 15. We were pleased that prior to your presentation you studied our website and learned a great deal about the CNIB. In your talk you pointed out your strong belief in literacy and how this was important to our clients. In order to keep our library program current, we recently converted our library from analogue materials to digital. This means that our clients are able to get their materials and at approximately the same time as their sighted friends.
I would like to wish you the best of success in your future endeavours."
Harold GraceDirector of Development, CNIB "I would just like to thank LuAn for the encouragement and the great advice she gave to me. I will never forget that day as long as I live. She made me feel like a special individual and gave me hope for the future. She is an inspiration to others and a truly remarkable person."
Erin Bowers
Regina, SK "I wanted to thank you SO much for your inspirational talk in support of Women's Habitat. It was a privilege to meet you."
Kathryn Babcock, Director of Development
Canadian Women's Foundation "I saw LuAn speak in Toronto I was so happy to see you had her new book... She really inspires a LOT of people, and she tells it like it is! Gosh Thanks LuAn. I recommend this book to everyone...I just wish it didn't end."
Marlene
Toronto, Ontario "I wanted to tell you how inspiring your speech was and that it's no wonder you love talking to audiences because you are wonderful at it. It was a pleasure to be your "host" and I'm looking forward to digging into Paper Doll."
Lisa Brandt, Toronto radio personality "I know that when I heard LuAn, I cried my eyes out and when I read her book, my heart broke so I am sending this e-mail on a hope that she will be able to touch others in at least half of the way that she touched me."
Brittany Bisnott,
Ontario "It was nice to meet you at the event and on behalf of Bell Mobility and Women's Habitat I would like to once again thank you for your contribution to our fundraising. Everyone had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed your story. They all wished they could hear more so hopefully they will go out and buy the book to do just that."
Patricia Lakin, Director, Community Relations, Bell Mobility "We were delighted to have LuAn in Vancouver to kick-off the [Minvera Foundation's Learning to Lead] conference. She was truly inspirational and a great role model to all of our students."
Nancy McKinstry
Chair, Minerva Foundation for BC Women "I would like to thank you sincerely for your participation in our Women of Influence Luncheon series in Calgary, Toronto and Ottawa. The feedback from the attendees was wonderful, admiring your accomplishments. As you know our objective is to provide an opportunity for our audience to listen to and learn from renowned Women such as yourself on issues relevant to today's executives. Your presentation not only fulfilled that objective, but also inspired the audience with your openness and honesty. With such ease and grace you captivated their minds and hearts. Your presentation was a
reflection of you, and you are a reflection of the strong and inspirational woman many of us strive to become."
Meghan Earle
The Powerpoint Group (Women of Influence) "Thank you once again Luan for your inspiring keynote address last Thursday at the President's Cup Breakfast and thank you for speaking to me after the event. I can't wait to have my daughters and wife attend one of your speaking engagements."
Les Oakes, Calgary, AB "I really enjoyed your presentation, finally! You are a great speaker and, as I am positive you hear all the time, an inspiration to women. I loved your saying about how your face ages with your attitude. God bless you as you continue to inspire others."
Darci Lang "I wanted to extend a huge "Thank you" to LuAn for visiting us at the ACE Leadership Conference in Saskatoon in October! Her visit was fantastic and we appreciated the support, guidance and motivation she was able to pass on to us. After reading Paper Doll this summer, I was instantly inspired to make the most of my life situation, irregardless of what came my way. My family has been through many struggles this year. It's been hard concentrating on school, leading a new ACE team, working to put myself through university and helping my family through these challenging times. At times I've felt it would be easier to just give up...but I am reminded of the struggles LuAn went through and feel hope in knowing that I too can make it through difficult times. I believe in myself and I believe I will be successful!"
Dawn Predinchuk
President, ACE Saskatchewan 2004-05
Saskatoon, SK "I would like to thank LuAn Mitchell-Halter for the wonderful talk at the Red & White Club for the Calgary Chamber of Commerce Presidents Cup Challenge. It was an uplifting and inspiring speech that will stay with me for a long time."
Don Leonardo "Just to reconnect with LuAn and you and say how very very special you were in my life last year. Both professionally when LuAn delivered her special speech to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research - and then, in deep kindness, to my political bid to be a member of Canada's parliament. Please know that much much beyond business, your gift enabled me to make the bid. It was 'rough trade' and took courage while giving back to me such a sense of excitement that I was exactly where I could make the biggest difference in this world in a riding with 45% child poverty."
Elizabeth McGregor | "LuAn was a different speaker and had many good ideas and points made. Many people congratulated her and left with bigger dream and ideas of new possibilities. She was very gracious and honoured at being a part of this major chamber event."
Jerrod Henoch,
Training2Go "Just a quick note to sincerely thank you for your words of inspiration at the Young Profession and Entrepreneurs Conference. Being an entrepreneur myself (female at that!) I specifically connected with your message of "learning what your made of." Since I started my own business two years ago, I have emerged a completely different woman: confident, assured and relaxed! Thank you for reconfirming that THIS IS what the journey is all about!"
Taunya "It was very nice to hear you speak. It is always gratifying hearing about good people getting what they truly deserve. I had a thought I wanted to share with you: when I first wrote my paper about you a few years ago, the part that stood out to me was that despite all your trials and tribulations, you still managed to emerge a successful business woman. However a few years of wisdom have opened my eyes to realize that as impressive as your career accomplishments are, they are secondary to your personal accomplishments. The class with which you have overcome your personal tragedies, the way you have grown as a person, cared for your children, and found love a second time in your life leaves me in awe of you. We are so caught up with our careers that we often lose track of why we do what we do."
Adam Gutman
McGill University "I felt compelled to write to you to thank-you for your encouraging words on Rogers TV for the Women of Influence at the Metro Convention Centre. The words you spoke of regarding your path to where you are today were very inspiring to say the least."
Joanne Rosato "First of all I would like to say thank you for coming to Halifax! It was a great opportunity to meet you and LuAn. I think that the support and resources that are available to women here in Nova Scotia are one of the reasons why I came here, started my business here and remained here for five years. I'm so glad that LuAn decided to publish her experiences so that other women, like myself can draw inspiration and insight from some of the situations we encounter as women in business today."
Sarah E. Macklin
Sem Designs Founder "On behalf of the City of Melfort, I want to thank you for a thought-provoking, inspiring presentation. We wish you the very best in whatever the future brings."
Darrell Collins, Mayor "LuAn changed my life. She was what I needed right when I needed it. She impacted my life so positively, I can't explain the change I felt in myself listening to her."
Michelle, Miss York - Canada Pageants "I can't tell you how thrilled our guests were to be a part of the evening, but even more so how impressed they were with the way they were felt welcomed and a part of the group. Beyond the stories, they were amazed by the "down to earth" attitude of LuAn, Rita, Kate and Mark. Thank you for your support, for your going out of your way to get the books, for joining us, and for being such an inspiration to supporting your sister, who is truly an inspiration as well to many women and men out there. She glows of sincerity, which is refreshing."
Laurie Campbell "I just had to let you guys know that I have never enjoyed a motivational speaker like I enjoyed LuAn at the IBAS convention. You made us laugh and cry. I must say you really touched my heart. Thanks so much for making me feel alive."
Karen Renton "We met briefly at the Women of Influence Luncheon at the Westin Hotel February 26. When we met I mentioned briefly that we were publishing our own book and that so much of what you had to say that day really inspired me and also helped reaffirm the feeling that we just had to go out on that limb and follow our dream. It has been very challenging trying to help my husband Doug launch our book while minding two little ones and we have had our share of family illnesses and upset this summer too. Reading your book has helped me find the seed for good in our own challenges (such a printing flaw that has led to a donation of books to a literacy program in Africa). I think my husband is almost full of my quoting from your book, or when I say "can I just read you this part?", or "listen to this." I just wanted to let you know the impact you had in helping us stay true to our dream when it sometimes seemed a bit overwhelming."
Shannon Chapman "I saw LuAn Speak in Toronto at the Metro Center to a sell out crowd for the Women of Influence series...she had us all spellbound! Since then I've seen her on Rogers television. She is wonderful, and this book is super. I have now passed my book on but just as a loner! I want it back. I will read and re read. Get it, you won't be sorry! And go hear her if she is in your area - she is fantastic!"
Judith, Ontario "I just wanted to personally thank you for the time you extended in your presentation at the Red and White Club. Over the years I have listened to many motivational and thought provoking speakers, but I must say that yours is one that I will not forget soon. I had a much needed dusting off this morning!!!! Please keep spreading the word. As a long time member of the Chamber, you should know that very few get a standing ovation.
I thought the interview in the Calgary Herald was excellent. Never hurts to be told what a remarkable individual you are! I am picking up your book for both my wife and myself. I told her about you and your revelations, and am sure we will both find it enlightening."
Paul J.W. Waddell
Business Development, The Cole Group "Thank you everyone for that last breakfast. It was a huge success. People on my team are still talking about it and many people sound very sorry they missed it. LuAn Mitchell-Halter, a great choice of speaker!"
Jerry "I attend the Calgary Chamber of Commerce on Thursday October 28th. I was really moved by your story and wanted to say thanks for your inspirational words, especially when you said go for great right now rather than later. That really hit my soul! When you said this it seemed that you were looking right at me saying, right Heather? (I know I am tough and have drive and thank you for helping me resurface that gusto! I got caught up in being a robot)! When you started that peer group in the meat plant, therefore incorporating the whole side of a person into the workplace, I was so impressed. That group clearly made a difference in the many lives of people there."
Heather Barratt,
People Consultant Canada Brokerlink "Thank you for all you are doing for youth in this nation. LuAn's message was excellent, I refer to it often as I speak to others. Also thank you so much for the Fred Mitchell Memorial Scholarship information. As soon as I received it I thought of a young lady. She had to move out on her own at sixteen-seventeen and is trying to make something of her life. She was one of our "Heroes" students in Jr. High, and treats me with utmost respect. She is just one of many that I want to think about regarding opportunities like this, which you give those who need the assistance so much."
Jack Toth, President Impact Society "It was really wonderful to meet LuAn and hear her speak at the recent launch of the Calgary EWomens Network. Many blessings and continued success."
Cheryl Hurlburt "On behalf of the Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs Conference organizers, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your time and helping us create what we hope is a successful, annual event. Thanks again!"
Leslie Gallacher "It was great meeting you finally! It was wonderful having LuAn here. The students just loved her and we were thrilled to have her be a part of our speakers' series."
Kristine Jones
McGill University "Thank you for the heart warming presentation at the Chamber of Commerce! It was fabulous to see another inspired woman in business!"
